ACHILL ISLAND POTTERY
by Joseph and Mary Colohan
The pottery was opened in 1960 in Keel on Achill Island by Joseph and Mary Colohan, whose inspiration came from working at a craft pottery centre in Vallauris (southern France). Crucially, they had some timely advice from Pablo Picasso who was also working there at the time.
After Joe (1906-1988) and Mary (1920-2007) passed away, the business went to their son, Fergil.
Today, Fergil and his wife Geraldine continue to run the Achill Pottery on a seasonal basis.
